Georgano's invaluable Encyclopaedia tells us that Amilcar was one of the most successful French manufacturers of sporting voiturettes and a quick look at this car will soon tell you why they were (and still are) so popular with enthusiastic motorists. Apart from being very pretty it is well designed and nicely made. It has a four cylinder engine of about 1,000 cc and a three speed gearbox fitted in a sturdy but lightweight chassis with front and rear axles being located by quarter elliptic springs. This particular example has been the subject of a really meticulous restoration which I am happy to detail to any serious enquirers but in essence pretty well everything has been checked and rebuilt or replaced as necessary. The body is a beautifully made copy of an original Amilcar two seat sports made in copper rivetted planked mahogany. The car is is a super example of its type and it really has to be seen to be appreciated. |
