Year 1918
Description This quite splendid Lyons built car is in really lovely condition. There has clearly been a lot of good restoration work done to the original coachwork (by Allignol of Avignon) and the mechanicals appear to be in very good order. Quite delightfully, the top quality cloth trimmed interior has never been touched and has the sort of patina you simply cannot fabricate and the very correct looking instrument panel is a real period piece in its own right. According to the identity plate on the dashboard it is car number 11905 which would place it in Rochet Schneiders 1913 production year though the V5C registration document records the date of manufacture as 1918 and the chassis number as B15008A which would indicate that it was built in 1919. I have looked but I can't find any trace of this number on the car so it may not be correct. It is quite possible that it is a pre 1914 car which was used as military transport during the Great War then rebodied for the domestic market after 1918. Indeed it is believed to have been used about that time by the Mayor of Lyons as his official transport and it does have a very period looking flag carrier on the nearside so this could well be true! The car is not priced as being a VCC dated Edwardian but if you are able to verify that it is 1918 or earlier then you ought to be able to enhance its value. Whatever its year it is an imposing high quality machine which was clearly aimed at a very up-market clientele. It will make a fine addition to any collection as well as being a good car for family use as well as for attending Edwardian/Vintage car rallies where you are unlikely to find yourself parked alongside a whole row of other Rochet Schneider cars!
